JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Public Prosecutors (JPU) have denied the allegation of intimidation by investigators, as stated by former Technology Consultant Ibrahim Arief when delivering his personal defence note or plea.

“The prosecution will respond that the defendant’s argument claiming intimidation during the investigation process is a one-sided statement without legal basis and must be set aside by the panel of judges,” said one of the JPU members while delivering the rebuttal at the trial in the Jakarta Corruption Court, Tuesday (28/4/2026).

The prosecutors stated that the intimidation allegation must be proven, either through a complaint report or pre-trial proceedings.

However, the prosecutors noted that Ibrahim’s side has not utilised those legal avenues to date.

“However, to date, there has been no official report or pre-trial ruling stating any procedural violations or unprofessional actions by the investigators,” the JPU continued.

The JPU stated that during the legal process, the investigators have carried out their duties in accordance with procedures.

“Therefore, legally, the investigators have conducted law enforcement in accordance with the provisions. The presence of legal counsel accompanying the defendant during the investigation process also reinforces that the defendant’s constitutional rights have been fulfilled,” the prosecutor added.

He claimed to have been contacted by someone who identified themselves as an intermediary for the investigators.

This intermediary conveyed that Ibam should make a ‘statement upwards’ so that his case would not be expanded.

“On 24 June 2025, I was contacted by an information intermediary who verbally conveyed that he was asked by someone in the ongoing investigation process to tell me to be willing, I quote, ‘to make a statement pointing upwards’ and if I refused, the case would ‘be expanded by us’,” said Ibrahim while delivering his personal plea.

At the time the message arrived, Ibam was still a witness.

Two weeks after his home was searched, Ibam was summoned and gave his statement as a witness for the first time.
