Prosecutors Demand Ibrahim Arief Remains Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison in Chromebook Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) has requested that former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief remain sentenced to 15 years in prison in the alleged corruption case regarding the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
“State that we maintain the prosecutor’s indictment that was read out in the previous trial on Thursday, 16 April 2026, to sentence the defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam as stated in the prosecutor’s indictment,” said one of the prosecutors while reading the rebuttal at the trial in the Jakarta Corruption Court, Tuesday (28/4/2026).
Ibam is also considered not neutral as a consultant in providing input regarding the procurement.
“The defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam did not demonstrate a neutral stance as an independent and objective consultant, but rather had personal interests and biases towards the implementation of the Chromebook procurement at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology without identifying the needs for education in Indonesia,” said the prosecutor.
“Ibrahim, as a consultant, worked unprofessionally and without independence because he carried out instructions from Nadiem Anwar Makarim to direct the use of the Chrome operating system as well as Chrome Device Management,” added the prosecutor.
This procurement is considered to have not identified the needs of basic and secondary education, thus causing failures, especially in remote, frontier, and outermost areas (3T).
The JPU is demanding Ibrahim Arief be sentenced to 15 years in prison with a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary 190 days.
He is also demanded to pay restitution of Rp 16.9 billion subsidiary 7.5 years in prison.
In the indictment, Ibrahim is not accused of enriching himself, but of jointly committing unlawful acts.
In this case, Ibrahim, or commonly known as Ibam, is believed to have produced a technical study that referred to a specific product, namely Chromebook.
In addition, Ibrahim also presented several materials to ministry officials. This presentation influenced the ministry officials to choose Chromebook as the product to be procured.
“Demand that the panel of judges impose a sentence on the defendant with 6 years in prison and a fine of Rp 500 million subsidiary 120 days in prison,” said JPU Roy Riady while reading the indictment.
