Mataram (ANTARA) - Public prosecutors have filed an appeal against the ruling by the panel of judges at the Mataram District Court in West Nusa Tenggara, which sentenced Brigadier Rizka Sintiani to 10 years in prison for the murder of Brigadier Esco Faska Rely.

“We declare an appeal,” said prosecutor I Made Saptini before the panel of judges during the sentencing hearing for defendant Rizka at the Mataram District Court on Friday.

The prosecutor made the statement after hearing the response from the defendant Brigadier Rizka’s legal counsel, who directly expressed a similar intention before the panel of judges.

In their earlier sentencing demand, prosecutors had requested the panel of judges to impose a 14-year prison sentence on Brigadier Rizka.

The prosecution stated that the actions of the West Lombok Police officer were proven to have violated the first alternative charge, related to Article 44 paragraph (3) of Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning Domestic Violence, in conjunction with Number 38, appendix one of Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments.

In its ruling, the panel of judges chaired by I Putu Suyoga agreed with the prosecution that the defendant was proven to have committed physical violence within the household resulting in the victim’s death.

The only difference between the judge’s ruling and the prosecution’s demand was the length of the sentence. The defendant received a lower sentence than what the prosecution had sought, namely 10 years in prison instead of the demanded 14 years.
