Muhammad Arfian, the prosecuting attorney who presented a death penalty recommendation against Sea Dragon crew member Fandi Ramadhan at the Batam District Court in Riau Islands, has apologised to the Third Commission of the Indonesian Parliament. He acknowledged making errors whilst handling the case. Arfian appeared alongside the Head of the Batam District Prosecutor’s Office and other prosecutors to explain the legal framework applied in Fandi’s case.

“We, prosecutor Muhammad Arfian, wish to convey our sincerest and deepest apologies for the errors we committed during the previous court proceedings,” Arfian stated at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He acknowledged that he had received disciplinary sanctions from the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) for his mistakes. According to him, the error would serve as an evaluation for future cases.

“We are grateful to the leadership of Commission III for their correction and attention to us. This will serve as material for our correction,” he said.
