Prosecutor Loses, Delpedro Acquitted, Yusril: Case Final, Government Respects
Republika.co.id, Jakarta — Minister Coordinating for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Legal Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra says the acquittal of the Executive Director of Lokataru Foundation and colleagues (dkk) shows that the judicial process is running independently without government intervention. The government, he says, has fulfilled its commitment not to interfere with ongoing legal proceedings.
‘The court has demonstrated its independence, and the government has not intervened in any way in the conduct of the trial,’ Yusril told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.
Thus, he emphasised, the government respects the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court. According to him, the judges have tried the Delpedro et al. case independently and without pressure or influence from any party.
Through this ruling, the minister continued, he hopes Delpedro et al. can be released from custody and return to society as soon as possible. ‘The government is fair and respects judicial independence,’ he said.
Yusril explained that under the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), prosecutors can no longer lodge cassation against acquittal verdicts.
