Prosecutor in Rembang Allegedly Trades Light Sentence for Rp140 Million
The Central Java High Prosecutor’s Office is examining a prosecutor from the Rembang District Prosecutor’s Office, initialled DAW, over allegations of promising a light sentence to the defendant in a criminal online gambling case in return for a sum of money. Head of the Legal Information Section at the Central Java High Prosecutor’s Office, Arfan Triono, confirmed the summons and examination of the prosecutor from the Rembang District Prosecutor’s Office. “The individual is undergoing a clarification process at the high prosecutor’s office,” Arfan stated in Semarang on Monday (13/4). According to him, DAW was examined by the Supervisory Division of the Central Java High Prosecutor’s Office. However, Arfan did not provide detailed explanations regarding the substance of the examination of the alleged prosecutor. Based on information gathered by Antara, DAW was examined over allegations of requesting money from the family of the defendant in the criminal act of online gambling, Ike Nur Kumala Dewi, who is on trial at the Rembang District Court. DAW is alleged to have promised a probationary sentence if the defendant’s family provided Rp140 million for that leniency. In the trial, the defendant Ike Nur Kumala Dewi, who offered an online gambling site through her social media, was instead demanded one year in prison by the public prosecutor. The Rembang District Court subsequently imposed a 10-month prison sentence on the defendant Ike Nur Kumala Dewi.
