Pros and Cons of Hajj Ticket Auction, Deputy Minister: Still Just a Concept
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah (Wamenhaj), Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, has emphasised that the Hajj ticket auction or direct ticket purchase/competition system remains merely a concept and is not a policy that will be immediately implemented. “(The ticket auction) is not a policy for this year, so do not misunderstand. It is not a policy for this year; it is our concept,” Dahnil stated while closing the National Coordination Meeting of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah at the Cipondoh Hajj Dormitory, Tangerang, on Friday (10/4/2026). Dahnil explained that the term “ticket auction” emerged as a formulation for transforming the Hajj pilgrimage system to enable the government to shorten the current average Hajj waiting period of 26.4 years. However, the government is still seeking a formulation to implement this policy without sacrificing prospective Hajj pilgrims who have already registered previously. “This is not a policy; it is an effort we are pursuing to transform our Hajj system so that we can shorten the queue or even eliminate the queue,” Dahnil said.
