Prophet Muhammad's Birthday: Sidkon Djampi Urges Public to Preserve Peace and National Unity
The commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday should not stop at being a ceremonial activity. The moment of the Prophet’s birth must serve as a reminder to emulate his character, strengthen peace, and maintain national unity amid diversity.
Member of Commission I of the West Java DPRD from the PKB faction, Sidkon Djampi, said the values taught by the Prophet Muhammad remain relevant in today’s society. Moreover, the Indonesian nation has diversity in ethnicity, religion, culture, and various differences of opinion.
According to Sidkon, differences should not become a reason for people to distance themselves from one another or become divided. On the contrary, diversity should be a strength for building the nation.
“The Prophet’s birthday must be a momentum to return to emulating the Prophet. He taught compassion, brotherhood, peace, and how to build a shared life in diversity,” said Sidkon on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
He assessed that the message of peace is becoming increasingly important amid the rapid flow of information. The public, he said, needs to be wise and not easily provoked by information that is not necessarily true.
In Sidkon’s view, the Prophet’s qualities known as siddiq (truthfulness), amanah (trustworthiness), tabligh (conveying the message), and fathanah (wisdom) can serve as guidance in social and national life.
Honesty becomes the foundation of trust, trustworthiness strengthens responsibility, while intelligence and wisdom are needed to face various problems.
The PKB politician also invited the people of West Java to continue maintaining the tradition of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and mutual respect. National unity is not enough to be conveyed merely through slogans, but must be realised in daily life.
“Do not let differences in choices, views, or backgrounds make us lose our sense of brotherhood. Indonesia was established because our predecessors were able to unite differences for one goal, namely a better life for the nation,” he said.
Sidkon added that the Prophet’s birthday commemoration is also an important momentum to strengthen character education for the younger generation. Families, schools, Islamic boarding schools, and the community environment need to work together to instil moral values, tolerance, and love for the nation.
According to him, development is not only about infrastructure and economic growth. The nation also needs a generation that has integrity, social concern, and commitment to maintaining harmony.
“If we truly practise the Prophet’s values, God willing, society will become more courteous, peaceful, mutually respectful, and strong in maintaining unity,” he said.
Sidkon expressed hope that the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday can become a space for reflection for all elements of society to improve themselves while strengthening the commitment to keep Indonesia peaceful and united.
“From West Java, let us nurture brotherhood and unity. Peace is a shared responsibility, and national unity must continue to be safeguarded,” said Sidkon.
