Property rights meeting in Oman
JAKARTA: Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yusril Ihza
Mahendra is scheduled to attend an international conference on
intellectual property rights and the protection of traditional
knowledge in Oman, Jordan, from Jan. 21 to Jan. 23.
Yusril will be accompanied at the conference by Director
General of Intellectual Property Rights A Zen Umar Purba, a
spokesman for the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights announced.
The conference, sponsored by the World International Property
Organization in cooperation with the Oman sultanate, will be
attended by representatives from 35 countries.
Noted figures expected to be present at the conference include
former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela, former
Philippine president Fidel Ramos, Egypt's First Lady Suzanne
Mubarak, Prince El Hasan bin Talal of Jordan and former UN
chairman Boutros-Boutros Ghali.
Issues on the protection of traditional knowledge, genetic
engineering and their close links with intellectual property
rights have thus far developed steadily and caught the attention
of the world community. -- JP
