PROPER Gold Award Demonstrates Benefits of Geothermal Energy for the Environment and Communities
The PROPER Gold award represents proof of our operational approach, which integrates technical excellence with measurable environmental and social responsibilities.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) states that the 15th consecutive PROPER Gold award received by the company is tangible evidence of the utilisation of geothermal energy for the environment and society.
“PROPER Gold is proof of our operational method, which integrates technical superiority with measurable environmental and social responsibilities,” said PGE President Director Ahmad Yani in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
This award is the 15th consecutive for PGE Kamojang Area and the fourth for Ulubelu Area.
Ahmad stated that this achievement further strengthens PGE’s position as a world-class green energy company that not only produces reliable geothermal clean energy but also grows alongside society and delivers real and measurable impacts for the surrounding environment and communities.
Ahmad added that the Ulubelu Area has an installed capacity of 220 megawatts (MW) and supplies around 20 percent of the electricity needs of Lampung Province. This time, PGE Ulubelu Area achieved PROPER Gold for the fourth time through two flagship innovations, namely STREAM and SAI BUMI JEJAMA.
STREAM (Steam Redistribution and Adjustment Method) is a technical innovation that successfully optimises steam flow from production wells through the addition of a satellite separator. This innovation has reduced emissions by 28,513 tonnes of CO2e.
On the social side, the SAI BUMI JEJAMA (Sustainable Agriculture for Building a Healthy Food System Community Through Joint Action and Mutual Aid) programme introduces a geothermal-based circular economy approach.
This programme is an evolution of previous approaches, integrating excess geothermal steam and the utilisation of non-hazardous waste to build a sustainable agricultural and fisheries ecosystem.
