Propam: Three Policemen Deliberately Destroyed Evidence in Bripda DP Death Case
The Head of the Professional and Security Division (Kabid Propam) of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Zulham Effendy, stated that three members of the Samapta unit will face charges of obstruction of justice in connection with the death of Bripda DP.
“Three of our members will be charged with obstruction of justice. They will stand trial tomorrow, God willing,” Zulham told reporters on Monday (2 March).
The officers are accused of ordering the cleaning of the crime scene, destroying evidence, and failing to report the destruction of evidence to their superiors.
“Those who gave orders to mop, those who carried out the cleaning, and those who knew about the destruction of evidence but failed to prevent or report it to their superiors—we are taking action against all of them,” he explained.
Additionally, Zulham stated that supervisory and control measures (Waskat) have been imposed on two to three levels of command above the perpetrators. This action was taken due to insufficient oversight of subordinates.
“Leaders must care for their subordinates. If there is no care and oversight, there will be consequences. This is part of our commitment to improve the culture within the National Police,” he said.
Regarding motive, Zulham stated that the beating was triggered by the perpetrator’s anger because the victim failed to respond to his summons.
“We have investigated the motive multiple times, and we found that he was angry because there were chat messages. In other words, he contacted his younger brother in the evening asking him to come over, but the victim refused,” he explained.
The victim, who was resting with several colleagues, was then awakened and immediately assaulted. During the trial, unusual actions were revealed, including the victim’s body being flipped over whilst the beating took place.
“The beating did not occur once or twice, but many times until the victim eventually collapsed,” he said.
In this case, Bripda P has been dismissed without honour (PTDH) after being found guilty of causing the death of Bripda DP.
