KULON PROGO, KOMPAS.com – Running and jogging activities are increasingly popular in the Pronosutan rice paddy area, Kembang village, Nanggulan sub-district, Kulon Progo regency, Yogyakarta Special Region.

The road used by runners was previously a farm road but has now become a favourite route for residents to exercise.

The vast expanse of rice paddies combined with the rows of Menoreh hills in the distance gives this area its own unique visual appeal.

Many visitors come on weekends or holidays to run, jog, cycle, or simply take a leisurely walk and enjoy the rural atmosphere in the morning.

“What I find most interesting is the vast expanse of green rice paddies along the running route,” said Tri, Sunday (17/5/2026).

According to him, running in an open space with a landscape of rice paddies provides a more enjoyable sensation compared to urban routes. The route in this area also has a gentle contour with an open view without many obstacles, so it is not boring because the scenery keeps changing.

One of the routes that can be enjoyed is the route connecting Kembang Field, the Pronosutan rice paddy area, and back to the field via Pasar Kenteng, which has a distance of about 5–6 kilometres, with an estimated time of around 25–30 minutes for recreational runners.

He also said that some parts of the route still need improvement to make it more comfortable for runners, especially in several areas where the paving is starting to deteriorate.

“If the road were made smoother, it could become a more attractive running destination,” he added.

Tri said that the best time to enjoy the Pronosutan route is in the morning before the sun gets too high. In addition to the air being cooler, this condition is also more comfortable for maintaining a steady heart rate while running.

“The best time is around half-past five to seven in the morning. After that, the sun starts to get high and has quite an impact,” he said.

In addition to being relatively free of motor vehicles, this area is also considered safe and comfortable for outdoor sports activities, with clean and fresh air.

Another jogging enthusiast, Rika Wulan Marheni, had a similar experience. The health worker from RSUD Wates enjoyed the route along the rice paddies and the Menoreh panorama, which is about 5.6 kilometres long.
