Jakarta (ANTARA) – In line with its commitment to supporting sustainable development towards a green and inclusive economy, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI continues to strengthen its role through the distribution of sustainability-oriented credit, which includes financing for MSMEs and support for environmentally friendly sectors across various regions. During the BRI Financial Performance Press Conference for the First Quarter of 2026 in Jakarta on 30 April, Deputy Director Viviana Dyah Ayu R.K. revealed that ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles have become an identity integrated into the company’s business model. Sustainability aspects serve as the main pillar in creating long-term value, where empowering the people’s economy and environmental preservation have become an integral part of BRI’s growth strategy. As of the end of March 2026, BRI has disbursed Socially Aware Business Activity Financing (KUBS) or Social Loan amounting to Rp718.8 trillion, equivalent to 53 percent of BRI’s total loans. This portfolio is focused on MSME financing to accelerate financial inclusion and job creation. Meanwhile, the portion of Environmentally Aware Business Activity (KUBL) or Green Loan is recorded at Rp96.6 trillion or equivalent to 7.1 percent of total loans, channelled to the renewable energy sector, environmentally friendly transportation, green buildings, and various other environmentally friendly sectors to support the achievement of a low-carbon economy. Optimisation on the asset side is balanced with strengthening the liability structure through the development of Sustainable Wholesale Funding, which reached Rp39.3 trillion by the end of the First Quarter of 2026, or equivalent to 78.2 percent of BRI’s total Wholesale Funding. “Overall, this approach affirms that sustainability at BRI is no longer merely about fulfilling regulatory compliance aspects, but has been integrated as part of the growth strategy,” said Viviana.
