Promoting Financial Inclusion and Literacy, BNI Agen46 Spread Across 3T Regions
In the era of rapid internet and technology, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) or BNI is expanding access to financial services for the public by introducing agen46 agents even to the remotest areas. The presence of this layanan keuangan tanpa kantor (Laku Pandai) network for financial inclusion aligns with the government’s Asta Cita, which emphasises equitable economic distribution and justice-oriented development through strengthening village economies. To this end, the development of agen46 serves as BNI’s foundation to bring formal banking services closer, from basic transactions and transfers to cash withdrawals, making them easily accessible to the public without needing to visit branches or ATMs. This step aligns with the sixth point of Asta Cita, directing village development to accelerate poverty alleviation and encourage local economic activities, including easier access to financial services. For context, the presence of agen46 is designed to expand financial inclusion and literacy while stimulating the local economy. Through agen46, BNI continues to strive to provide more accessible banking services to the public, while also promoting local economic activities. As evidence, agen46 has made a significant contribution to financial inclusion in Indonesia. This is reflected in the number of agen46 agents, which has reached more than 217,000 in 35,000 villages, or an annual increase of 1.7% (YoY). BNI already has more than 28,000 agen46 agents spread across 3T regions—frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped—in Indonesia by the end of 2025. Of that number, around 9,700 agen46 are in western Indonesia’s 3T areas, then around 13,800 in central Indonesia, and around 4,600 in eastern Indonesia. Through agen46, BNI provides inclusive services such as online account openings, money transfers, cash withdrawals and deposits, tax and bill payments, government subsidies, and KUR loan referrals. Ultimately, agen46 can improve the quality of life and productivity of UMKM, including grocery stores, which are integrated with comprehensive financial services from Agen46, including increased customer traffic and commission-based income from facilitated transactions. BNI also empowers agen46 agents with sophisticated applications. Among them are user-friendly interfaces, real-time sharing fees for agents, additional features such as promotions and information, online account openings, cash withdrawals and deposits, a variety of bill payment services, and connections to BNI’s digital loan forms (KUR Micro). Based on BNI’s annual report, the transaction value at agen46 reached Rp121.7 trillion throughout 2025. In detail, these transactions were dominated by balance inquiries at 42%, cash withdrawals at 27%, other transactions such as e-wallet top-ups and interbank transfers at 19%, BNI internal transfers at 7%, and cash deposits at 5%. BNI President Director Putrama Wahju Setyawan stated that as a state-owned bank, BNI positions itself not only as an intermediary institution but as a strategic partner of the government in accelerating the national development agenda. According to him, synergy in various government priority programmes is carried out with a prudent approach, ecosystem-based, and oriented towards strengthening long-term economic fundamentals.
