JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto targets resolving Indonesia’s waste problem within a period of two to three years. This issue will be addressed by utilising domestically produced waste processing technology. According to Prabowo, the government already possesses a capable strategy and technology developed by the nation’s own people. “Universities now must work, and they are already working. We now have technology to clean up waste, made by us ourselves, not too expensive from abroad. In two to three years, we will resolve the waste across all of Indonesia,” stated Prabowo during a briefing at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). He conveyed that the public will no longer smell odours at every street corner. “There will be no city, no road, no part of Indonesia that smells because of waste from Sabang to Merauke,” he emphasised. On that occasion, Prabowo also expressed his desire for the current geopolitical situation to become an opportunity for Indonesia to advance further. “This world crisis, to me, is an opportunity; it accelerates us, it makes us focused. That means our strategy is already correct, but we must accelerate; we must accelerate so that our energy is renewable, our energy must come from Indonesia itself,” added Prabowo.
