Prominent US Journalist: Attacking Iran, Trump Prioritises Israel's Interests Over America First

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON – The United States’ recent strikes against Iran demonstrate that President Donald Trump has reversed his previous promises. This was stated by a prominent right-wing US journalist on Friday, as reported by Middle East Monitor on Saturday.

“I think this war is something he promised he wouldn’t do, not just once but multiple times,” said Tucker Carlson, former Fox News commentator and occasional Trump supporter.

He stated that the rationale behind the war contradicts the ‘America First’ principle. Claiming that regime change in Iran would benefit the US, Carlson said no one disputes this.

However, he criticised Trump’s claim that an Iranian attack on the US was imminent, stating that Tehran has been getting closer to nuclear weapons.

“I’ve heard… this sort of tiresome fear-mongering about nuclear weapons, which Iran doesn’t have. It’s actually insulting, even to make that argument to me, that Iran’s nuclear programme poses such a threat to the US three weeks ago that we have to launch a full-scale war against them,” he said.

Echoing other media reports, he said Washington started the war because Israel wanted it. He added that Tel Aviv chose the timing of the war.

“We are prioritising Israel’s interests over our own,” he added, noting that American voters elected Trump as president, not Israel’s President Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Trump should refuse, as previous presidents have done to a certain extent,” he said.
