Prolonged Drought Leaves Barito River Dry and Barren
A prolonged dry season has caused the water level of the Barito River in Central Kalimantan to recede, revealing an unusual landscape on Friday (21/8). According to local residents, the receding condition of the Barito River has become quite severe since early August. The Barito River, which normally serves as a transport route, has forced a number of vessels to search for parts of the river that remain passable. If this condition continues, disruptions to water transport are feared to become increasingly widespread.
