Proliferation of Coretax 'Jockeys' for Filling SPT, Purbaya: I'll Sort It Out Later!
The use of paid services to fill out annual tax returns (SPT) via the Coretax tax system has become a hot topic on social media. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that he will take action regarding this matter.
The fees charged for these services vary from Rp50,000 to Rp100,000, depending on the type of annual SPT. This raises dangers, particularly concerning the confidentiality of personal data.
According to Purbaya, the proliferation of ‘Coretax jockeys’ is due to business opportunities arising from the poor design of the current system.
“In economics, if there’s an opportunity, someone will jump in. But going forward, we’ll fix it so that Coretax no longer requires jockeys,” he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office on Monday (6/4/2026).
Purbaya confirmed that the current Coretax system design is difficult for ordinary people to use. He even suggested there is an element of intentionality, allowing businesses to emerge from that complexity.
“The design is apparently flawed. It’s a bit difficult for ordinary people to use. So there are jockeys or software interfaces that can connect Coretax with people. Now it’s too fast, the time is too short for us to fix it,” he said.
“Because I only found out a month ago, less than a month. That there’s room for people to enter in the middle of Coretax to there. So it’s like Coretax was created with weaknesses so that there’s business in the middle. I’ll sort it out later,” he added.
On the other hand, Member of Commission XI Puteri Komarudin, during a working meeting with the Ministry of Finance on Monday (6/4/2026), said that many parties are taking advantage of public confusion in accessing Coretax to offer paid SPT filing services.
“And if we look recently, there are those exploiting public confusion to the point of offering jockey services for Coretax reporting,” said Puteri.
Therefore, according to her, the Directorate General of Taxes under the Ministry of Finance needs to conduct more detailed and massive education on the features in the Coretax system. This way, the public can report their annual SPT independently and not give openings to unscrupulous individuals to exploit citizens’ confusion.
“We want more detailed and massive education regarding the features of this Coretax, how to report, what if there’s overpayment or underpayment, what if they feel burdened, and so on, which causes confusion and is exploited by irresponsible parties,” she said.
