JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Secretary-General of Projo, Freddy Alex Damanik, affirmed that the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), does not belong to any specific group or political party.

Freddy said that Jokowi is a leader who emerged from and belongs to the Indonesian people.

“Mr. Jokowi does not belong to any specific group or party, but is a national figure who belongs to the Indonesian people, a leader of the people who was born from the people themselves,” Freddy told Kompas.com on Friday (15/5/2026).

He explained that Projo and PSI have a good relationship between their founders and administrators.

“Our good relationship remains intact with Chairman Kaesang, with the Chairman of the Advisory Board, Jeffrie Geovanie, Grace Natalie, Raja Juli Antoni, Ade Armando, Faldo Maldini, and almost all the old members of PSI,” said Freddy.

The most important thing for Projo is who consistently upholds Jokowi’s legacy during his 10 years of leading Indonesia.

“Projo views PSI as an ally in many ways. Differences in organizational positions are common in democracy, but the ultimate goal is the same: to keep Indonesia moving forward and maintain the spirit of democracy inherited by Mr. Jokowi,” Freddy emphasized.

Previously, the Deputy Secretary-General of PSI, Bestari Barus, stated that it is PSI that arranges when and where Jokowi will travel around Indonesia, not the Projo volunteers.

“We are the ones who prepare it. I don’t know what Projo is? Isn’t Projo supposed to be Pro-Jokowi? It wasn’t Pro-Jokowi at the time, it even said so. So it’s a bit confusing when you ask me about Projo, which Projo are you referring to? The one that no longer supports Jokowi?” Bestari told Kompas.com on Thursday (14/5/2026).
