Budi Arie Setiadi, chairman of Projo, expressed concern over the acid attack against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. He stated that the incident does not align with democratic values and respect for human rights.

“This incident is entirely unwelcome to us. In a democracy, every citizen has the right to feel safe and receive legal protection,” Budi Arie said in a written statement on Monday, 16 March 2026.

He also appreciated President Prabowo Subianto for issuing clear and firm directives to law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the incident in a professional, transparent, and fair manner.

Additionally, Budi Arie encouraged the government to continue paying attention to the victim’s condition by ensuring that the healing process proceeds well.

He supported the government and law enforcement efforts in uncovering all the facts whilst ensuring that Indonesia’s democratic space remains protected and safeguards for every citizen are strengthened.

“Democracy must be protected by upholding the law, mutual respect, and rejecting all forms of violence,” he emphasised.

Budi Arie called on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid speculation, and trust the legal process to the competent authorities.

As previously reported, Andrie Yunus became a victim of an acid attack allegedly committed by two individuals in Central Jakarta on Thursday evening, 12 March. The incident occurred as Andrie was returning home after attending a podcast event at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI).
