Projects awarded with no bidding

BEKASI: Members of the Bekasi Council have highlighted the absence of Rp 2.3 billion (US$270,588) in road construction projects from the 2004 budget proposal, raising the possibility of abuse because the projects were awarded without a tender.

Councillor Sardjono Saputro said recently they would seek clarification from officials at the public works agency overseeing the projects.

Separately, the coordinator of the Coalition of Clean Officials in Bekasi, Iqbal Daud, alleged that a contractor was awarded a Rp 2 billion project to repair Jl. Raya Jatiwaringin without having to go through the tender process. -- Antara
