Project Truck Overturned on Abdullah Syafii Street, Tebet Traffic Congestion Continues into Evening
JAKARTA – Traffic on Jalan Abdullah Syafii, Tebet, South Jakarta remained congested through Friday evening (13 March 2026) due to a project truck that overturned at the roadside following a project accident the previous night.
Observations at the scene around 21:15 WIB showed the truck still lying across the road and occupying part of the street. Two and four-wheeled vehicles were forced to travel slowly whilst passing the location due to a road narrowing in front of SDN 07 Tebet Timur.
Traffic flow returned to normal only after vehicles passed the overturned truck at the roadside. Meanwhile, congestion from the opposite direction was attributed to increased vehicle volume as workers returned home from the office.
“That direction is usually fine because people are heading home; it should clear up around 22:00 WIB,” said local resident Ilham (50) who was at the scene on Friday.
Ilham stated that the truck fell around 01:00 in the early morning after the project crane lifting the load collapsed. The truck apparently could not withstand the crane’s load and overturned in the project area located in front of SDN 07 Tebet Timur.
“Fortunately, there were no parked vehicles there at the time, so it remained safe with no casualties,” said Ilham.
On Friday evening, several project workers were observed beginning evacuation efforts by cutting sections of the truck. The overturned truck was also covered with blue tarpaulin.
Project personnel stated they were working to complete the evacuation process during the night.
The incident became public knowledge when the truck was discovered at the roadside of Jalan Abdullah Syafii, causing traffic congestion from Friday morning onwards.
Mujiyanto, head of South Jakarta Traffic Police, described the incident as a project accident that occurred the previous night.
“It was actually a project accident that occurred last night,” he told Kompas.com on Friday.
According to Mujiyanto, evacuation could not proceed immediately due to the busy traffic conditions on the road. Additionally, evacuation required heavy machinery given the truck’s considerable size.
