The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (OTT) against Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro and dozens of others. Regent Anom was arrested on Wednesday (29/7) on suspicion of manipulating projects and engaging in the buying and selling of official positions. The arrest was confirmed directly by KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto. KPK revealed that a total of 21 people were detained in the operation, including Regent Anom. Of that number, five people were detained in Jakarta, 15 in Pemalang, and one in Purworejo. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that 12 of the 21 individuals would undergo further examination at the KPK’s Merah Putih building. From the sting operation, the KPK seized a total of Rp 2 billion in cash along with other evidence. The case against Regent Anom relates to receipts connected to projects. The KPK has not yet detailed the specific project corruption allegedly committed by Anom, as investigators will further examine the findings during a case presentation with KPK leadership. Budi stated that the sting operation also relates to alleged corruption involving the trading of positions within the Pemalang Regency Government. Following the operation, the KPK sealed several locations targeted for searches, including the office of the Head of Public Works and Spatial Planning (DPUPR) in Pemalang. The KPK also sealed two houses in the Mutiara Residence housing complex in Pemalang on Tuesday (28/7) evening. The sealed house in Block B is known to be the residence of a man with the initial O, who is reportedly a contractor and a relative of Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro.
