PHNOM PENH (Reuters): Cambodia and Thailand made significant progress during a three-day meeting in Phnom Penh to determine their official border, officials said on Wednesday.
"The meeting resulted in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the survey and demarcation of the Thai-Cambodia border," Thai Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sukhumbhand Paribatra, told reporters after the meeting of the Cambodian-Thai Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary.
Cambodia's delegation leader, Var Kim Hong, said the survey would begin soon, but he declined to say exactly when surveyors would be sent to the border.
While the MOU has been agreed upon, it has not yet been approved by the two countries' governments. Officials said they hoped it would be approved in time for an official signing next week when Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai visits Phnom Penh.
