Program Expands Digital Literacy Access for Youth in South Tangerang
South Tangerang, VIVA – The South Tangerage City Government (Tangsel) officially launched the GPS Digital Academy & Innovation Center on Saturday, 29 August 2026.
The launch, centred at the Al-Kautsar Grand Mosque, Vila Dago Pamulang, Benda Baru Village, marks a new chapter in strategic collaboration between the local government, higher education institutions, and religious communities to accelerate digital transformation through community empowerment.
The inauguration ceremony included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Tangsel Digital Academy programme between the South Tangerang Communication and Informatics Office (Diskominfo), the Forum Silaturahmi Pondok Pesantren (FSPP), and the Institute of Technology and Science (ITTS).
The Head of Diskominfo Tangsel, TB Asep Nurdin, stated that the GPS Digital Academy programme is a strategic initiative by Diskominfo to expand digital literacy access for the younger generation.
According to him, the programme represents the synergy of three essential elements of regional development: the government (umara), religious leaders (ulama), and the community (ummat).
“The South Tangerang City Government, through Diskominfo, initiated this programme to address the need for digital talent grounded in religious values,” said Asep in a press release, quoted on Friday, 4 September 2026.
He added that the presence of this innovation centre is expected to serve as an inclusive platform for young people to master modern technology. The GPS Digital Academy & Innovation Center is designed as an incubator for practical skills in the era of information disruption.
The first cohort of the programme’s training has been underway since 15 August 2026, involving 62 participants from various backgrounds.
“Participants are divided into two specialised skill classes: digital content and fundamental web programming, integrated directly with the use of artificial intelligence,” said Asep.
This curriculum, Asep noted, is prepared to ensure participants can adapt to the rapidly changing needs of the digital industry.
This initiative from Diskominfo also involves various key community figures, including the Chairman of the South Tangerang Dawn Warrior Movement (GPS) Ustaz Moh. Sartono, the Chairman of the Al-Kautsar Foundation Ustaz Juni Sukasmono, and the Chairman of the Al-Kautsar Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM) Ustaz B. Widhadi.
The event was also attended by members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), heads of Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD), sub-district heads, community leaders, as well as parents and training participants.
