Profile of the Ombudsman Chairman Arrested by the Attorney General's Office: From Activist to Entangled in Mining Report
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) arrested Hery Susanto, Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman. The investigative team from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) apprehended Hery at his residence in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026). Hery was arrested six days after his inauguration by the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
The investigators who carried out the arrest stated that Hery was detained in connection with receiving money for handling audit reports (LHP) from several mining operations. “He was arrested in relation to receiving money to handle Audit Result Reports (LHP),” said the investigative team on Thursday (16/4/2025).
After the arrest, the investigative team took Hery to the Round Building at Jampidsus, Kejagung, for questioning. Following the examination, the investigators designated Hery as a suspect.
On Thursday (16/4/2026), around 11:20 WIB, Hery emerged wearing an orange vest indicating his legal status as a suspect, before being placed in a detention cell.
Hery was inaugurated as Chairman of the Ombudsman by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on 10 April 2026, replacing Mokhamad Najih for the 2026-2031 period. Previously, he had also served as a member of the Ombudsman RI for the 2021-2026 period.
