Her academic journey continued at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where Suahasil completed her doctoral studies in economics in 2003.

This educational background has served as a foundation for Suahability’s career as an academic and her involvement in various government economic and fiscal policies.

Suahasil’s academic career began in 1999 when she joined the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Indonesia (FEB UI) as a lecturer.

Ten years later, in 2009, Suahasil was appointed as a Professor of Economic Science at UI. During her time on campus, she also held several strategic positions.

Suahasil served as the Head of the Postgraduate Economic Science Study Programme from 2004 to 2005. Subsequently, she served as the Head of the UI Demographic Institute from 2005 to 2008.

From 2009 to 2013, Suahasil was entrusted as the Head of the Department of Economic Science. Her academic experience subsequently brought her closer to public policy matters.

In addition to teaching and her university duties, Suahasil was active in several institutions and teams related to economic policy and development.

She served as a member of the Minister of Finance’s Assistance Team for Fiscal Decentralisation from 2009 to 2011. During the same period, she was appointed Vice Chairman of the Committee for Overseeing Regional Autonomy Implementation until 2015.

Suahasil also served as the Policy Working Group Coordinator at the Secretariat of the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction (TNP2K) from 2010 to 2015.

This position involved her in various discussions regarding fiscal policy. Her experience in economics and public policy proved to be vital assets in performing those duties.

Her career at the Ministry of Finance continued to higher positions. On 25 October 2019, Suahasil was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance in the Indonesia Maju Cabinet during President Joko Widodo’s era.

As Deputy Finance Minister, Suahasil assisted the Minister of Finance in the formulation and implementation of national fiscal policy.

Upon entering President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, Suahasil was again entrusted with the position of Deputy Minister of Finance in the Red and White Cabinet.

This experience ensured she remained within the government’s fiscal policy circle before finally being appointed as the Minister of Finance.

Now, following President Prabowo’s official inauguration of her as Finance Minister on Monday (14/9), Suahasil Nazara assumes greater responsibility in leading the Ministry of Finance.
