Profile of Silmy Karim, Deputy Minister of Immigration, Who Surrendered as a Suspect in a Corruption Case
The Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, has been named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in connection with alleged corruption related to the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals at the West Jakarta Immigration Office.
Silmy came under scrutiny after becoming a person of interest in the KPK’s series of raids at the West Jakarta Immigration Office. He surrendered to the KPK on Wednesday (June 3rd) evening at around 10:32 PM, accompanied by several aides, and immediately underwent questioning.
Silmy is not a new figure in government or the corporate world. The man, born in Tegal, Central Java, is a 1992 graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Trisakti University.
Before entering government, Silmy had a career spanning more than two decades in various national and multinational companies.
He has served as the President Commissioner of PT Krakatau Posco, President Commissioner of PT Krakatau Nippon Steel Synergy, Commissioner of PT GE Power Solution Indonesia, President Commissioner of MAN Diesel & Turbo Indonesia, and Advisor to PT Freeport Indonesia.
Silmy also served as an Independent Commissioner at Carrefour Indonesia before being appointed as the Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in January 2023.
During the administration of President Prabowo Subianto, Silmy was again entrusted with the position of Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections.
According to the 2025 State Official Wealth Report (LHKPN), Silmy has total net assets of IDR 234.59 billion.
This figure comes from total assets of IDR 243.59 billion, minus debts of IDR 8.99 billion.
Silmy’s largest assets come from land and buildings worth IDR 184.02 billion, located in the South Jakarta and East Jakarta areas.
In addition, he has cash and cash equivalents worth IDR 31 billion, other movable assets worth IDR 11.39 billion, securities worth IDR 8.69 billion, and transportation and machinery worth IDR 8.47 billion.
In the report, Silmy also owns a number of collectible vehicles, including two 1998 and 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
For four-wheeled vehicles, he owns a 1988 Jeep CJ7, a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 280E, a 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser, a 1996 Jeep Wrangler, and a 2022 Mercedes-Benz G63.
Of all his vehicle collection, the Mercedes-Benz G63 is the highest-value vehicle asset, worth around IDR 6 billion.
