Jakarta - The beneficial owner of PT Asmin Koalindo Tuhup (AKT), Samin Tan, has been detained by the Attorney General’s Office in a case of alleged corruption in the management of mining operations in Murung Raya Regency, Central Kalimantan.

Samin was named as a suspect and immediately detained at the Salemba Detention Centre of the Attorney General’s Office on Saturday (28/3/2026) in the early hours.

In this case, PT AKT’s business licence was revoked in 2017. However, the company is alleged to have continued mining and selling coal until 2025.

At that time, Samin is suspected of giving Rp 5 billion to Eni Maulani Saragih to handle the termination of the Coal Mining Business Work Agreement (PKP2B).

However, on 30 August 2021, the panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court acquitted Samin of all charges.

The judges ruled that under the Corruption Offences Law, only the recipient of a gratification can be punished in a gratuity case, not the giver.

In contrast, Eni Maulani Saragih was sentenced to six years in prison and a fine of Rp 200 million, subsidiary two months’ imprisonment, in 2019 for receiving the gratification.

He began his career at the public accounting firm KPMG Hanadi Sudjendro, then joined Deloitte Touche from 1998 to 2002.

Since 2007, Samin has developed his business in the mining sector and founded PT Borneo Lumbung Energi and Metal Tbk.

His name became more prominent after serving as Chairman of Bumi Plc, a mining company listed on the London Stock Exchange.

In 2011, Forbes magazine listed him as one of Indonesia’s richest people with a net worth of US$940 million.
