Profile of Prihati Pujowaskito, the Military Doctor Appointed as BPJS Kesehatan President Director
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Among the newly appointed Board of Supervisors and Directors of BPJS Kesehatan for the 2026–2031 term, Prihati Pujowaskito has been selected by President Prabowo Subianto as president director of the public body that provides national health insurance.
Born in Solo on 29 March 1967, Prihati has been immersed in the world of healthcare since her youth. She initially pursued medical studies at Universitas Sebelas Maret, graduating in 1991, before completing a master's degree at Universitas Airlangga in 2007.
She subsequently obtained a second master's degree in Hospital Management from the Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Gotong Royong, graduating in 2015, and later complemented her education with a law degree from Universitas Borobudur, completing it in 2022.
To deepen her expertise, she also undertook seven months of interventional cardiology training in 2024.
Prihati's healthcare career began as a Medical Officer of a Kopassus Battalion, a post she held from May 1995 to July 2002. Beyond clinical work, she also ventured into academia as a lecturer.
She served as Dean of the Faculty of Military Medicine at Universitas Pertahanan from 2023 to 2025, and has been active as a lecturer in Cardiac Disease Studies at the same university since August 2023.
In the academic sphere, she has served as a lecturer in Internal Medicine at Universitas Jenderal Ahmad Yani since January 2008 to the present.
Additionally, since June 2019, she has been entrusted as a member of the Presidential Physicians Expert Panel of the Republic of Indonesia.
In the clinical field, she has served as a Consultant Interventional Coronary Cardiologist at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto since August 2018.
She then served as Director of Medical Support at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto from July 2021 to June 2023, having previously led as Head of the Cardiology Department at the same hospital from August 2018 to June 2021.
Prior to her posting at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto, she served as Head of the Cardiology Department at RSAD Dustira from July 2014 to July 2018, and before that as Head of the Internal Medicine Department at RSAD Dustira from February 2011 to June 2014.
She also previously held the position of Head of the Cardiology Sub-Department at RSAD Dustira from April 2007 to March 2011.
She has published two written works related to social security. The first, entitled "Restorative Justice in the Resolution of Medical Malpractice Disputes in Indonesia," was written as a dissertation in 2022. The second, "Restorative Justice Roadmap in Indonesia: Hype or Hope," was published in 2025.
Prihati is also active in professional organisations, holding memberships in the Indonesian College of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, the Indonesian Military Medicine Association, and the Indonesian Medical Devices Entrepreneurs Association.
Prihati has received various Satya Lencana service medals and the Bintang Yudha Dharma military decoration from the TNI, and was named Distinguished Alumni of Universitas Sebelas Maret in 2024.
