Profile of Prihati Pujowaskito, New President Director of BPJS Kesehatan
President Prabowo Subianto has appointed retired Major General Prihati Pujowaskito as President Director of the Social Security Administering Body for Health (BPJS Kesehatan). The appointment was formalised through Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 17/P of 2026 on the Dismissal and Appointment of Members of the Supervisory Board and Board of Directors of BPJS.
“This decision is part of the strengthening of governance and the continuity of the National Health Insurance (JKN) Programme,” BPJS Kesehatan said in a statement on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
In addition to appointing Prihati as the new President Director, Prabowo also installed seven other members of the board of directors: Abdi Kurniawan Purba, Akmal Budi Yulianto, Bayu Teja Muliawan, Fatih Waluyo Wahid, Setiaji, Vetty Yulianty Permanasari, and Sutopo Patria Jati.
Prihati Pujowaskito will occupy the top leadership position at the social security agency for the next five years. The retired military officer takes over from Ali Ghufron Mukti, who was appointed President Director of BPJS Kesehatan in February 2021.
Educational Background
Prihati Pujowaskito is a cardiologist and vascular specialist with a sub-specialisation in interventional cardiology, who built his career in the military health sector. Born in Solo, Central Java, on 29 March 1967, he held the rank of Major General in the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).
Prihati undertook military education at the Voluntary Military Officers School (Sepamilsuk) ABRI III in 1990, the Basic Health Branch Course (Sussarcabkes) in 1998, and the Advanced Health Officers School (Selapakes) in 2007.
He also pursued general medical education, graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta in 1994. He then completed his cardiology and vascular specialisation at the Faculty of Medicine at Airlangga University, graduating in 2007.
In addition, Prihati obtained a Master’s degree in Hospital Management (MMRS) in 2015 and a Doctorate in Health Law in 2021.
Military Career
Prihati began his military career through the TNI career officer pathway in 1990. From 1990 to 2000, he was assigned as a doctor in the Special Forces Command (Kopassus).
From 2000 to 2006, he was posted to the Army Health Centre (Puskesad) and served as a cardiac specialist at the Dustira Army Hospital in Cimahi.
From 2018 to 2021, Prihati was entrusted with the role of Head of the Cardiology Department at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto and served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine at Jenderal Achmad Yani University (Unjani) in Cimahi, West Java. From 2021 to 2022, he was appointed Director of Medical Supervision at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto.
From 2023 to 2025, Prihati served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Defence University.
