Profile of Lodewyk Pusung, Former BGN Deputy Chief Named Suspect in Alleged MBG Governance Corruption
The name Lodewyk Pusung has become the centre of public attention after the Attorney General’s Office named him a suspect in an alleged corruption case concerning the governance of the Free Nutritious Meals programme for the 2025-2026 period. The former Deputy Chief of the National Nutrition Body was implicated alongside two other names, Dadan Hindayana and Sony Sonjaya, after investigators found at least two pieces of sufficient evidence.
Lodewyk Pusung is a retired Indonesian Army officer born in Manado, North Sulawesi, on 27 September 1960. A graduate of the Military Academy in 1985, he has a long track record in the infantry corps. He ended his active service in 2018 with the final rank of Major General.
During his military career, Lodewyk held a number of strategic positions. On 2 October 2025, he received a special promotion to the honorary rank of Lieutenant General from President Prabowo Subianto, making him one of 11 retired officers to receive a similar honour.
After retirement, Lodewyk was trusted to join the administration of President Prabowo Subianto. He was inaugurated as Deputy Chief of the National Nutrition Body on 22 October 2024 based on Presidential Decree 59/M of 2024. However, his tenure at the BGN ended on 2 June 2026 following the President’s move to reshuffle the leadership at the institution.
Long before his time at the BGN, Lodewyk was also entrusted by President Joko Widodo to coordinate the relocation of victims of the Mount Sinabung eruption when he served as Commander of the I/Bukit Barisan Regional Military Command. He is also known for his attention to food issues, as evidenced by his involvement in a food self-sufficiency programme in 2016.
Based on the State Officials’ Wealth Report filed on 11 February 2025, Lodewyk is recorded as having total assets of Rp60.54 billion. The majority of his wealth consists of land and buildings valued at Rp58.725 billion, as well as vehicle assets and cash with no recorded debt.
The suspect status determination by the Attorney General’s Office regarding the Free Nutritious Meals programme is currently still in the legal process stage. In accordance with the presumption of innocence, this status is an allegation that must be proven further in court.
The public now awaits developments in the Attorney General’s Office’s investigation into the alleged irregularities in this flagship government programme that has ensnared the retired general.
