Profile of Hanif Faisol, the Environment Minister Shifted by Prabowo to Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Sector
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol as Deputy Coordinating Minister for the Food Sector. The inauguration was carried out by Prabowo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).
For information, before being inaugurated as Deputy Coordinating Minister for the Food Sector, he served as Minister of Environment.
The inauguration today was carried out based on Presidential Decree Number 51/P of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet for the 2024-2029 period.
“I swear by God that I will be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and will implement laws and regulations as straight as possible, for the sake of my dharma service to the nation and state, that I, in carrying out my official duties, will uphold the ethics of the position and work as best as possible with a full sense of responsibility,” said Prabowo, followed by Hanif.
He has a long track record in the forestry and environmental sectors, and has worked as a civil servant since the early 1990s.
In terms of education, Hanif studied forestry, where he earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Faculty of Forestry at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM). He then continued his doctoral education at Brawijaya University, Malang.
His career began through a bonded service programme at the Department of Forestry as a wirawana or forest ranger.
Hanif’s bureaucratic experience continued to develop, where he has held several strategic positions, including Head of the Forestry Service of Tanah Bumbu Regency and Head of the Forestry Service of South Kalimantan Province during the 2016–2020 period.
At the national level, Hanif was trusted to become Secretary of the Directorate General of Forest Planning and Environmental Layout (PKTL) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) from 2020–2023. He was then appointed as Director General of PKTL from 2023 to 2024.
For his dedication in the forestry sector, Hanif once received an extraordinary promotion award in 2019.
