Profile of Gatut Sunu Wibowo, the Tulungagung Regent Caught in KPK Sting Operation

Regent of Tulungagung Gatut Sunu Wibowo was taken to the Merah Putih Building of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after being caught in a sting operation (OTT) on Friday (10/4) night.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Gatut was immediately brought to Jakarta to undergo further examination.

“This morning (Saturday), the team brought the Regent of Tulungagung to Jakarta for further examination,” Budi said.

Gatut Sunu Wibowo’s name has not been long in the top government position in Tulungagung. He is the Regent of Tulungagung for the 2025-2030 period after winning the 2024 Regional Election with his deputy, Ahmad Baharudin.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) recorded that the Gatut Sunu Wibowo-Ahmad Baharudin pair won the 2024 Tulungagung Regional Election with 50.72 percent of the votes.

The official portal of the Tulungagung Regency Government records that Gatut Sunu and Ahmad Baharudin have undergone the handover of duties for the 2025-2030 leadership term.

Before becoming regent, Gatut was first known through his position in local government. He once served as Deputy Regent of Tulungagung from 2019-2023.

His political journey also attracted attention ahead of the 2024 Regional Election. Gatut was initially a PDIP cadre before choosing to leave and join the Gerindra Party ahead of the election.

In addition to a career in politics, Gatut is also known to have a background as an entrepreneur. He was once reported to work as a building materials shop entrepreneur before stepping into local government.

In terms of education, Gatut completed his primary and secondary education in Tulungagung. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universitas Merdeka Malang and a Master’s in Economics from UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung.

In the State Organiser’s Wealth Report (LHKPN), Gatut is recorded as having total wealth of Rp20,335,211,000 based on the report submitted on 31 December 2025 as the highest leader of the Tulungagung Regency Government.

That figure increased compared to the LHKPN reported on 2 September 2024 as a regional head candidate with a total of Rp18,078,162,376.

Now, Gatut Sunu Wibowo is once again in the public spotlight after being caught in the KPK OTT and brought to Jakarta for further examination.
