ATAMBUA, East Nusa Tenggara: A profile of Belu regency bordering
the newly independent East Timor will be featured in a film
entitled Atambua, Gateway to Timor, which will also show tourist,
cultural and industrial centers in the area.
Belu deputy regent Bria Yohanes said in Atambua on Monday that
at least 12 potential places of interest in the regency, such as
tourist spots, cultural attractions, handicraft factories and
natural resources, would be covered in the film.
Among the cultural highlights are the cave of Lourdes in
Tubaki, visited annually by thousands of Catholics in October,
and the Tubaki fountain on a monument built by the Dutch in the
district of Central Malaka.
In Lamaknen district opposite East Timor, mining may figure
prominently with its abundant resources of gold, gypsum, copper,
lime and white clay, as well as marble deposits in Raihat and
crystals in Central Malaka.
Ceramics and woven fabrics with Malaka motifs are part of
Belu's handicrafts featured in the film which will cost over Rp
200 million to produce. --Antara
