Tragic news has emerged from a United Nations peacekeeping mission. An Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldier, Corporal Farizal Romadhon, was reported killed while carrying out his duties as a peacekeeper in Lebanon.

His passing leaves not only profound grief for his family but also for the Indonesian nation, which has lost one of its finest sons.

This event serves as a reminder of Indonesia’s vital role in maintaining global stability through United Nations missions, particularly the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Corporal Farizal Romadhon was born in Kulon Progo on 3 January 1998. He was known as a simple individual with a high dedication to the state. From a young age, he demonstrated a strong spirit of service, which led him to join the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

As a soldier, Farizal underwent various trainings and assignments with full responsibility. His military career progressed until he was entrusted to join an international mission with the UN.

Corporal Farizal Romadhon was part of the Indonesian peacekeeping contingent in UNIFIL. This mission aims to maintain stability and security in southern Lebanon, an area long plagued by conflict.

Indonesia is recognised as one of the largest contributors of peacekeeping troops worldwide. The participation of soldiers like Farizal demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to fostering global peace.

During his assignment, Farizal was attached to the 113/JS Infantry Battalion of the 25/Siwah Dam Brigade, with his last position as Taban Provost 1 in the Ru Provost Kima unit.

According to a UNIFIL report, the tragic incident that claimed Corporal Farizal’s life occurred on Sunday, 29 March 2026, local time. A projectile struck one of the guard posts near the village of Adchit al Qusayr in southern Lebanon.

The explosion from the projectile resulted in casualties, including Farizal, who was on duty securing the post at the time.

In its statement, UNIFIL noted that a peacekeeper was tragically killed due to the explosion. This event illustrates that peacekeeping missions are not always conducted in safe conditions but involve high risks.

The death of Corporal Farizal Romadhon is a heavy blow to his family. He leaves behind his wife, Fafa Nur Azila (25), and a two-year-old daughter, Shanaya Almahya Elshanu.

This story is all the more poignant because Farizal had only married on 4 July 2023. In a relatively short time, he had to leave his young family to fulfil his national duties.

His family has been residing in the Kima 113/JS Infantry Battalion military barracks in Juli sub-district, Bireuen Regency, Aceh.

To date, the TNI is still coordinating with the family regarding the funeral arrangements for the deceased. Typically, soldiers who fall in the line of duty receive military honours as a form of appreciation for their services.

The repatriation of the body from abroad also involves cross-border and inter-agency coordination, including with the UN and the Indonesian government.
