Profile of Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, Jember DPRD Member Who Went Viral for Playing Games and Smoking During Health Meeting
VIVA – A member of Jember’s DPRD, Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, is currently under public scrutiny following a video of him playing online games while smoking during a hearing (RDP) on health issues that went viral on social media.
The incident occurred during a Commission D DPRD Jember meeting with several health agencies on Monday, 11 May 2026, in the Banmus room of the Jember DPRD.
The video has elicited various reactions from the public because the meeting addressed critical issues such as measles, stunting, maternal and infant mortality rates (AKI/AKB), and the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) programme. In the circulating footage, Syahri is seen playing a game on his mobile phone while smoking in the air-conditioned meeting room.
Profile of Achmad Syahri Assidiqi
Achmad Syahri Assidiqi is known as the youngest member of Jember’s DPRD for the 2024-2029 period. According to the official DPRD Jember website, the Gerindra politician was born in Jember on 21 June 1999 and is now 26 years old.
Syahri is the son of former DPR RI member Achmad Fadil Muzakki Syah. He also hails from the Al Qodiri Islamic Boarding School environment in Patrang Subdistrict, Jember, which is managed by his extended family.
In his political career, Syahri ran as a legislative candidate from Electoral District 6 of Jember, covering Puger, Gumukmas, Kencong, and Jombang subdistricts, in the 2024 elections. Although a newcomer to politics, he successfully garnered 12,102 votes and secured a seat in Jember’s DPRD.
Currently, Syahri serves on Commission D of Jember’s DPRD, which handles health, education, social affairs, employment, youth and sports, as well as women’s empowerment and child protection.
According to the official DPRD Jember profile, Syahri holds a Bachelor of Economics (SE) degree. He pursued higher education at the Institut Agama Islam (IAI) Al Qodiri, now renamed Universitas Islam KH Achmad Muzakki Syah (UNIKHAMS).
Syahri attended pesantren education in Genggong-Probolinggo up to high school and continued his studies in Jember. He was active in campus organisations before entering politics, eventually joining the Gerindra Party and being inaugurated as a Jember DPRD member.
The viral video of Syahri during the meeting has now made his name widely discussed by the public. In addition to criticism from netizens, his actions are reportedly set to be addressed in a session by the Jember DPRD’s Honour Council and the Gerindra Party’s tribunal regarding alleged ethical violations.
