Profile: Luke Thomas Mahony Appointed as CEO of DSI
Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of the State Investment Management Agency BPI Danantara, announced that Luke Thomas Mahony has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI).
Rosan said that the board of directors for the state-owned enterprise would be announced soon. ‘We can look at his track record; his capability is clear, just as we shaped Danantara previously,’ he told reporters at the Istana Negara on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
The appointment of Luke is linked to the issuance of Government Regulation on the Governance of Export of Natural Resource Commodities by President Prabowo Subianto. The regulation designates PT DSI as the sole exporter for crude palm oil, coal, and ferro alloys.
Luke Thomas Mahony is an Australian national who previously served as Director of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk from July 2024 to September 2025. According to his LinkedIn profile, prior to becoming President Director of PT DSI, he had been Senior Executive Vice President – Business Performance & Optimisation at Danantara since September 2025.
Before Vale Indonesia, he served as Chief Technical Officer from December 2022 to February 2024 at Vale Base Metals, and from February 2024 to August 2024 he was appointed Technical Director.
At Vale, he worked for eight years and six months. Initially, he was General Manager Resource Development & Long-Term Planning from July 2014 to January 2017, and from January 2017 to March 2019 as Technical Executive – Global Coal Business in Mozambique.
He then became Global Head of Geology, Mine Engineering, Geotechnical, Tailings Dams and Technology from January 2019 to December 2021. Next, he served as Global Head of Technology & Innovation in Canada from October 2021 to December 2022.
Previously, Luke also worked at BHP Billiton. There, he began as Principal Business Analyst from July 2010 to November 2011, then served as Manager Reporting from October 2011 to August 2012, and Manager Production Projects from September 2012 to February 2014, and as Manager Production Prestrip from February 2014 to June 2014.
Luke completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering at the University of New South Wales from 1999 to 2002. He later studied at the same campus and earned a Master’s degree in Commerce-Finance in 2004.
