Profile and Career of Fadia Arafiq: From Dangdut Singer to Pekalongan Regent Caught in KPK OTT

Jakarta – Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq has drawn public attention after being detained in an arrest operation (OTT) conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The arrest by the anti-graft body has attracted attention because Fadia is one of Central Java’s relatively high-profile female regional leaders. The daughter of the late legendary dangdut singer A. Rafiq, she was named a sole suspect in a case involving alleged procurement of outsourcing services or manpower outsourcing, and other procurement within the Pekalongan Regency Government for the 2023-2026 fiscal years. Fadia has been detained by the KPK for 20 days, from 4 to 23 March 2026. In her statement, the 47-year-old dangdut singer said she did not understand the bureaucratic system given her background as a musician. However, investigators countered with the presumption of innocence or the theory of legal fiction. Amid the ongoing scrutiny of the case being handled by the KPK, the public has also retraced Fadia Arafiq’s life journey. Before entering politics, Fadia gained recognition as a dangdut singer; her rise to fame in the early 2000s came with the song ‘Cik Cik Bum Bum’, which made her popular in the dangdut industry at the time. Fadia is married to Ashraff Abu, a former Malaysian dangdut singer who now holds Indonesian citizenship. He is currently a Member of the House of Representatives for the 2024–2029 period from the Golkar faction, representing the Central Java X electoral district comprising Batang, Pekalongan, Pemalang regencies and Pekalongan City. Educational background: Fadia completed her primary and secondary education in Jakarta, attending SD Negeri Karet Tengsin 14, SMP Negeri 8 Tanah Abang and SMA Negeri 58 Ciracas, East Jakarta. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Universitas AKI Semarang in 2013. She then pursued a Master of Management at Universitas Stikubank Semarang in 2015. She also pursued doctoral studies at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Semarang.
