The annual exodus of holiday makers returning to their
hometowns is now in full swing. Travelers are keen to get
together with their families to celebrate Lebaran. Unfortunately,
going home is not as easy as one might think. In fact, it is
still very difficult to return home to celebrate this great
religious holiday, even though the country has been independent
for 56 years. The core problem is the difficulty in obtaining
tickets.
This happens every year and, apparently, the relevant
authorities haven't paid the problem serious attention. Don't
the officials see how tired the travelers are, as they are forced
to wait in line for hours, and perhaps even queue overnight, just
to obtain a ticket? Perhaps the employees of relevant
institutions, particularly state enterprises dealing with ticket
sales, have never been through this themselves.
Tickets often sell out very quickly, and many would-be
travelers complain that they have been unable to get their hands
on a ticket. It's only natural that these people should be
suspicious and blame the infamous scalpers for their unfortunate
situation. It is true, however, that some ticket scalpers at
Gambir station have been arrested.
The ticketing farce has also occurred at the state-owned
shipping company (Pelni). A lack of professionalism on the part
of the company's employees has resulted in the state incurring
significant losses. It's time the transportation minister took
the necessary measures against the culprits and improved the
ticket selling system to the point where the public gets the
service it deserves.
