JAKARTA — Prof. Dr. Latumeten Road, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta remained submerged by flooding until Monday 9 March 2036 afternoon.

Based on field observations, standing water approximately 30 centimetres deep was still visible at 11:30 am.

The flooding covered Jalan Satria through Prof. Dr. Latumeten Road, extending from the Grogol intersection to the level crossing at Grogol Station.

Long queues of vehicles were visible, predominantly comprising box trucks, private cars, taxi fleets, and Transjakarta buses caught in the congestion. Vehicle movement became extremely sluggish whilst attempting to pass through the flooded area.

The traffic jam was exacerbated by slow-moving vehicles descending from the Letjen S. Parman flyover towards Grogol. Flooding also affected pavements, forcing pedestrians to walk barefoot whilst carrying their shoes.

“This has been flooded since Sunday during dawn prayers. It was even deeper yesterday, reaching the calf, and water entered the minimarket,” said Jojo, a parking attendant at a minimarket on Latumeten Road.

The frequency of level crossing closures due to passing KRL Commuter Line trains further intensified traffic congestion on Latumenten Road.

One motorist, Alwan (23), who was heading to Soeharto Heerdjan Mental Hospital, also complained about the traffic caused by flooding.

“The congestion is terrible. Monday mornings are typically busier anyway. But this is extremely bad. I spent about 15 minutes in front of that flood area and only moved a few metres; we barely moved,” said Alwan.

Meanwhile, several officials from the Sub-Department of Water Resources continued operating pumps to accelerate flood management efforts in the Latumeten area.
