Producing films

From Bisnis Indonesia

I've been longing to see good Indonesian films screened in public theaters beside good western ones. I was glad to watch the film Sherina the other day. It was OK. Congratulations!

But where are the other good Indonesian films like Sherina? I understand how risky it was to make films during the Soeharto regime: film-makers were afraid of being arrested or accused of being "against Pancasila" (state philosophy) or being terrorized, sniffling creativity.

Now that film-makers have no more psychological obstructions like before, why not make more good films, any kind of films capable of competing with Western ones? We've been longing for them!

Why do you not make films to depict the life of our people today as well as the past. Our history is rich in epics and stories that are extremely colorful. If you can make good films, you will definitely profit from them because we will throng all theaters where good Indonesian films are screened. Sherina has proven that!
