Procurement of Washing Machines and Stoves for People's Schools Reaches Billions of Rupiah
The procurement of goods by the Ministry of Social Affairs for the People’s Schools programme is once again in the spotlight. Following the procurement of shoes and socks worth tens of billions, attention has now turned to the purchase of other items in the form of washing machines and stoves.
According to data on the national procurement website, or Inaproc, Kemensos is recorded as purchasing washing machines, divided into six procurement packages. The total value of the procurement for washing machines alone amounts to Rp 2,922,269,644. The status of each procurement package includes some that are already completed, and others that are in the process of contracting with the committing officer (PPK).
As for the procurement specifically for the purchase of stoves, the total value amounts to Rp 4,296,866,405. This stove procurement is divided into 14 packages. The status of each includes some that are completed, in the process of contracting with the PPK, and others in the process of delivery and receipt.
Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, stated that he is still examining the findings. He asked the public to be patient in awaiting the results of the investigation into the People’s Schools procurement. “The point is, everything that is spent will definitely be audited. It’s impossible for it not to be audited,” said Gus Ipul when met at his office on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
Regarding the procurement of washing machines for People’s Schools, Gus Ipul confirmed that there was indeed a purchase of washing machines for the students of People’s Schools. The washing machines will be used by students to wash their clothes. “But for the complete details, not now. Tomorrow, we will convey everything in a press conference,” he said.
Before the procurement of washing machines and stoves, Kemensos was scrutinised over the procurement of shoes and socks for People’s Schools. Recently, there was also public attention on the procurement of photo frames of the president and vice president for the People’s Schools programme.
The total procurement of those photo frames reached Rp 4.14 billion. The purchase of photo frames of the president and vice president is also recorded in the report on the realisation of goods and services procurement by ministries and institutions published on Indonesia Procurement or Inaproc. Based on the realisation documents downloaded by Tempo, there are four packages for the procurement of photo frames of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran.
The package name description states that the photo frames of Prabowo and Gibran are for the needs of People’s Schools. There are at least four procurement packages conducted. Three of them were carried out in the 2025 budget year, and one other in 2026.
In the previous year’s realisation, the Ministry of Social Affairs allocated Rp 806 million for a package named “Non-Operational Procurement of President and Vice President Photo Frames”. The status of the project work remains “in process” to this day.
The Ministry of Social Affairs, as the implementer of the People’s Schools programme, also used state budget funds of Rp 519 million to purchase a package named “President and Vice President Photo Frames SR 1C”. And procurement for similar goods in a separate contract worth Rp 91 million.
In this 2026 budget year, the Ministry of Social Affairs again purchased a package of photo frames of the president and vice president. The value is much larger compared to the realisation of the same goods procurement last year, namely Rp 2.72 billion.
In the same package, the Ministry of Social Affairs also procured figures of the Garuda emblem. The photo frames of the president, vice president, and figures of the Garuda emblem are intended as classroom accessories for People’s Schools.
Saifullah Yusuf acknowledged the procurement of photo frames of the president and vice president for People’s Schools. He said the purchase of Prabowo and Gibran photo frames can be traced.
He explained that the ministry has assigned implementing units and those responsible for the procurement of goods and services for People’s Schools. According to him, there is already a Committing Officer in his ministry assigned to handle all matters regarding the procurement of goods and services.
“Those who can explain in more detail are the responsible parties. If I explain it, it might be incorrect,” he said when met at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Jakarta on Monday, 11 May 2026.
