Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IX, Charles Honoris, claims he was never consulted by the National Nutrition Agency regarding the procurement of 21,000 motorcycle units. Commission IX of the DPR is the working partner of the BGN.

He admitted to being surprised by the procurement of transportation for the operational needs of the free nutritious meals (MBG) project. “There was no consultation, because if it had been conveyed to us (Commission IX of the DPR), we would definitely have rejected it,” said Charles when met at the DPR complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 9 April 2026.

He questioned the basis and urgency of procuring electric motorcycles for the heads of nutrition fulfilment service units. According to him, the BGN should not squander the budget on matters outside the scope of fulfilling Indonesian children’s nutrition.

Moreover, he stated that the procurement of motorcycles for MBG had actually been rejected by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. “But it turns out it was still carried out and the goods have already arrived in Indonesia,” said the PDI Perjuangan politician.

Charles said that to date, he has not fully known the details of the MBG motorcycle procurement. Commission IX of the DPR, he said, will summon the BGN to discuss the procurement of tens of thousands of motorcycle units. His commission has scheduled the meeting for Monday, 13 April 2026.

Charles emphasised that transparency and accountability are important elements in procurement policies. Especially, he said, at present President Prabowo Subianto is still implementing budget-saving policies amid global conditions.

Charles said that the budget-cutting policy impacts regional finances. According to him, not a few regional heads in Indonesia have complained about cuts in transfers to regions to meet priority programmes, one of which is MBG.

“So we feel very sad, very concerned when other institutions are carrying out efficiencies, the budget used for MBG is instead not on target,” said Charles.

Previously, the Head of BGN, Dadan Hindayana, said that the procurement of 21,000 motorcycles for MBG operations was carried out from the 2025 budget. He stated that the two-wheeled vehicles would be distributed to the heads of nutrition fulfilment service units.

“We will distribute them later for the operations of all personnel in the SPPG, especially in difficult areas,” said Dadan on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.

Dadan claimed that the budget allocated to purchase one motorcycle unit was Rp42 million. According to him, the price of the electric motorcycle is below the market price.

“The market price is Rp52 million, but we bought it, if I’m not mistaken, for Rp42 million, below the market price,” he said.
