Procurement of 35 US Amphibious Armoured Vehicles for Marines Worth Rp 414 Billion
A delegation from the United States witnessed the handover of Assault Amphibious Vehicles (AAV) to the Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps at the 6th Infantry Battalion Headquarters in Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Monday (29/09/2026). The handover marks an important milestone in the US-Indonesia defence partnership.
According to a press release from the US Embassy, the Indonesian Navy is procuring 35 AAV units at a value of 23 million US dollars, or approximately Rp 414 billion. This procurement represents Indonesia’s first large-scale purchase from the US in recent years, facilitated through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) scheme.
The first 12 vehicles arrived on 22 September 2026, consisting of 11 AAVP7 units for personnel transport and one AAVC7 variant for command purposes. The US Deputy Chargé d’Affaires, Aqueelah T. Johnson, explained that the delivery of these amphibious vehicles signifies a successful equipment shipment and reflects the strong security cooperation between the US and Indonesia.
“Indonesia’s procurement of Assault Amphibious Vehicles demonstrates our shared commitment to enhancing security and readiness throughout the Indo-Pacific region through the modernisation of defence equipment,” said Johnson.
“I am proud to see the partnership we continue to build further strengthening regional security through the use of battle-proven American-made platforms,” Johnson added.
