Probowangi Train Becomes Favourite in Daop 9 Jember During Ascension Day Holiday

The long weekend for the Ascension of Jesus Christ brought a surge in passengers across several train services within the PT KAI Daop 9 Jember region, East Java. Among the various available routes, several favourite trains became the primary choice for the public, for both short and long-distance travel.

Cahyo Widiantoro, Manager of Legal and Public Relations for KAI Daop 9 Jember, explained that the trend of train usage during the period of 13–17 May 2026 was observed to be very positive. A total of 112,710 passengers were served, with the majority opting for long-standing favourite services.

In the Public Service Obligation (PSO) service category, the Probowangi train was the standout performer. The service connecting Ketapang (Banyuwangi) to Surabaya Gubeng recorded the highest number of passengers, totalling 5,977 people throughout the long holiday.

“The Probowangi train remains the most sought-after by the public because it offers affordable prices, efficient travel times, and the intercity connectivity required by passengers,” said Cahyo. These trains are known for offering medium-distance travel at affordable rates, making them frequent targets during holiday seasons.

For commercial services, the Sangkuriang train, connecting Ketaplag to Bandung, was the most selected with 2,334 passengers. This train is known for offering long-distance travel with more complete facilities, attracting inter-regional travellers.

Two other commercial trains also drew significant attention, catering to those undertaking long-distance journeys with a need for extra comfort.

“The high mobility of the public during the long holiday demonstrates that trains remain the primary mode of transport considered safe, comfortable, and punctual,” he explained.

Cahyo added that the success of the services during the long holiday was inseparable from the company’s commitment to maintaining passenger safety and comfort. “We continue to ensure that train journeys run safely and on time. Thank you for the trust of passengers who continue to choose trains as a mode of transport,” he stated.
