Probolinggo Regency Closes Seruni Point Due to Bromo Forest Fire

The Probolinggo Regency Government has temporarily closed the Seruni Point tourist destination due to a forest and land fire on Mount Bromo, East Java, which had not been extinguished as of Thursday. The decision was made because the blaze poses a potential danger to public safety and has approached the Seruni Point area.

“Following up on the fire situation around Mount Bromo, which could endanger the safety of the public and visitors, and the position of the flames that have neared the Seruni Point area, the tourist destination has been temporarily closed starting Wednesday (12/8) at 20.00 WIB,” said Probolinggo Regional Secretary Ugas Irwanto in Probolinggo on Thursday.

During the closure, all visitors and members of the public are prohibited from heading to or entering the Seruni Point area due to the danger posed by the flames moving towards the site. “The closure is in effect until an unspecified time, and further information regarding the reopening of the area will be provided later,” he said.

Seruni Point has been crowded with visitors since the four entrance gates to Mount Bromo were closed by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) authority, as tourists can watch the sunrise from there. The number of visitors has even reached 2,000 people at times.

So far, there has been no damage to tourism support facilities at Seruni Point because most of the structures are made of concrete and are therefore safe. Officers have also immediately installed barriers and no-entry signs on the route to Seruni Point, as some tourists were still unaware of the closure.

The closure of Seruni Point is temporary and will remain in place until the forest and land fire within the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, which is heading towards the tourist site, is completely extinguished and the area is declared safe. In connection with this, the Probolinggo Regency Government hopes that various parties will help disseminate this information to the public and tourists to support the implementation of the area closure for the sake of collective safety and security.
