Probolinggo Prepares Emergency Bridge to Madakaripura Waterfall

The Probolinggo Regency Government in East Java is acting quickly by preparing an emergency bridge to the Madakaripura Waterfall after the bridge collapsed and the road subsided due to a landslide, cutting off access to the tourist attraction in Negororejo Village. The Regency Secretary Ugas Irwanto, accompanied by the Head of the Regency BPBD Executive Oemar Sjarief, the Head of the Regency Public Works and Public Housing Department Hengki Cahjo Saputra, and members of the Lumbang Subdistrict Leadership Communication Forum, conducted monitoring and evaluation on Saturday. “That bridge is an old infrastructure built around the 1980s and its condition is already fragile, so it could not withstand extreme weather and collapsed,” said Probolinggo Regency Secretary Ugas Irwanto after inspecting the location in Negororejo Village, Lumbang Subdistrict. As a quick step, he continued, the Regency Government will carry out cleaning of materials and technical assessments to accelerate the construction of the emergency bridge. Coordination is also being carried out with various parties, including providers of Bailey-type emergency bridges. “We have instructed BPBD, the Public Works Department, and related teams to immediately conduct assessments. In the near future, an emergency bridge will be built so that access can be used again, at least for two-wheeled vehicles,” he stated. “Today we have closed it completely, the public is not allowed to pass because it is dangerous. We ask village officials and the subdistrict leadership forum to immediately carry out socialisation. Insya Allah, within the next 2 to 3 days, the emergency bridge can already be used,” he added. The bridge, known to the public as Duren Bridge or Curah Soyo, collapsed on Saturday early morning around 02:00 WIB after being hit by heavy rain. Officers have also installed a police line at the location to avoid risks to residents and prohibited approaching the area because it is very dangerous.
