Probolinggo BPBD on Full Alert to Anticipate Mount Bromo Fire Spreading

The fire reignited this morning, according to information we received from TNBTS officers.

Probolinggo, East Java (ANTARA) — The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Probolinggo, East Java, is on full alert to prevent the spread of a forest fire on Mount Bromo, specifically in the Bantengan Block, an area of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), on Tuesday.

“The fire reignited this morning, according to information we received from TNBTS officers,” said the Head of Executives of the Probolinggo Regency BPBD, Oemar Sjarief, when contacted by mobile phone.

His office, together with the East Java BPBD, the military and police, local communities and volunteers, under the coordination of TNBTS, is working to prevent the forest fire in the Bantengan Block area from spreading.

Officers are carrying out monitoring, building firebreaks, and preparing equipment for fire prevention efforts to stop the blaze spreading further within the TNBTS area.

“The team has also climbed Sariwani Hill in Sariwani Village, Sukapura Sub-district, to anticipate the forest and land fire heading towards Probolinggo, using whatever equipment is available,” said Oemar Sjarief.

He expressed hope that the fire would not spread further and could be extinguished by officers in the field.

Previously, the TNBTS Head Office closed part of the Mount Bromo tourist access from the Jemplang and Coban Trisula entrances in Malang Regency, as well as Senduro in Lumajang Regency, due to the forest fire in the Bantengan Block.
