Probolinggo Agriculture Agency Strengthens Early Detection of Avian Influenza in Poultry

The Agriculture Agency (Diperta) of Probolinggo Regency is tightening oversight of livestock health, particularly poultry, by strengthening its early detection programme for Avian Influenza (AI), or bird flu. This strategic measure is being taken as a preventive effort to minimise the risk of the virus spreading, which could harm the local livestock sector.

The early detection effort involves animal health teams that routinely monitor both smallholder and large-scale farming areas. The officers’ main focus is ensuring strict biosecurity in the coop environment to break the potential chain of transmission of infectious animal diseases.

The Probolinggo Regency Government, through Diperta, is optimising the role of technical livestock officers and veterinarians in every sub-district. They are tasked with educating farmers on the importance of recognising early clinical symptoms in poultry infected with the AI virus.

Several technical steps emphasised in the enhanced early detection programme include: Diperta of Probolinggo Regency urging farmers to immediately report to the nearest officer if they find indications of health problems in their livestock. Farmers’ awareness in reporting cases early is key to successfully controlling an outbreak before it spreads.

In addition to focusing on bird flu, Diperta also continues to monitor other potential infectious animal diseases that often emerge during seasonal changes. With massive early detection, it is hoped that the economic stability of farmers in Probolinggo Regency will be maintained and that the supply of poultry meat and eggs will remain safe for public consumption.
